SERVICE OF DIVINE WORSHIP AND PRAISE

September 5, 2010

10:45 a.m.

The Welcome and the Announcements

Let the first note of the prelude be your call to prayer and reflection.

Please silence phones & pagers and refrain from photography during the service.

      The Prelude

*    The Call to Worship

Leader:  Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body

               you were called to peace.

People:  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one

              another with all wisdom,

Leader:  And as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your

              hearts to God.

People:  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the

              Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

*    The Processional Hymn No. 150

“Come, Christians, Join to Sing”.…………………………………………………MADRID

      The Confession of Sin

Leader:  Restore us, O LORD God of hosts;

People:  Let your face shine, that we may be saved.        Psalm 80:19, NRSV

All:        O gracious and gentle and condescending God, God of peace, Father of mercy, God of all comfort: we confess before you the evil of our hearts; we acknowledge that we are too inclined toward anger, jealousy, and revenge, to ambition and pride, which often give rise to discord and bitter feelings between others and us. Too often have we thus both offended and grieved you, O God. Forgive us this sin and permit us to partake of the blessing you have promised the peacemakers, who shall be called the children of God. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.  Worship Sourcebook, The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship

(Pause for a time of individual reflection.)

*    The Assurance of Pardon

Minister:  The Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.  Book of Common Prayer [1979], pp. 41-42

All:  Amen.

Skills and time are ours for pressing toward the goals of Christ, Your Son:

All at peace in health and freedom,

Races joined, the church made one.

Now direct our daily labor, lest we strive for self alone;

Born with talents, make us servants fit to answer at Your throne.

      The Time of Fellowship

   Following the postlude, you are invited to enjoy refreshments on the south lawn as

   hosted by the Lee Kvidahl family.

Today’s liturgical color, green, signifies spiritual growth.

The flowers adorning the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of  Mary Wechsler by the Monday morning prayer group.
